We will draw this wonderfully sensitive Young Lady. In this project you will learn how to communicate and maintain her fine feminine quality. It will be important to concentrate and emphasize the
features that draw the viewer in and lets them connect with what she might be thinking. Darrel makes this dream a reality by helping you project an almost ethereal image. 

In this 12 part tutorial, he will draw along with you as he teaches:
• How to draw with a lower set of values, but creating the necessary range that will give us the subtle contrasts that will still suggest depth, contour, and very effective light direction. We still want to have the clean edges that will suggest the form, and range of values that will keep those areas from going flat and expressionless in those light transparent areas.
• How to find a mood and capture and communicate it to your viewer. 
• How to take your graphite drawing to the level of realism that will give such dimension that you can almost feel the depth. It just takes
patience.....

Critique Tokens

The straight-edge (ruler) and divider method will be demonstrated for this layout.  IMPORTANT:  Darrel is using a darker pencil than you should just so you can see the pencil strokes.  BE SURE TO USE YOUR 4H.  You can always stop the video and complete each step as you go through this.  It is very important to get the proportions correct at this beginning stage. We will work on the eyes, mouth and nose in this lesson.  Bring in a good balance of her features by building up each area.  The value of the skin is something that you need to be careful with.  We want it to maintain that smooth look of baby skin.  This is accomplished by adding each layer as needed. Have fun! - Darrel :):):)

You will use your 4H and your divider a bunch this lesson to verify proportions and a few other elements.  Work on bring the value of her precious skin up in such a way that maintains its smooth texture. Such a great project! - Darrel ;):):)

It is a good time to get the form of the chiffon sketched out.  Use your divider to check for placement on some of those easy to find areas on the image. The soft texture of chiffon will be a challenge to recreate, but you can do it.   Once that is done, you can move on to the 2H pencil.  We are over half way on this beautiful girl.

You will work on some of the darker areas of the drawing.  Sparingly use the 2B.  As you add to the darker areas, then go back and begin laying down another layer of skin tone to even it out.  As you work on the top of the drawing, her head is cut off in the reference.  Decide if you will vignette or if you will create your own version of the top of her head.  It will make a difference in how you approach that areas of the drawing.

Darrel has a few proportions to correct. It will be a great lesson n why the 5PM is so valuable when you need to make changes.  You will work on the values of the face and also the hair.  Now is a good time to decide if you will add value to the background and how you will finish off the outside edges of this image.
