The grand finale of this wonderful project.  We touched up all the definition around where the mama and cub meet so as to have them appear separate. We hope you enjoyed this tutorial. See you in the next one!

Polar Bear - part 15 - After Class Scan

We added more detail to the areas between the mama bear and the cub.  We also lightened up some areas to keep from getting the subject too dark.

Polar Bear - part 14 - After Class Scan

We worked on the shadows between the mom and cub to separate them on the paper.

We focused on more value in the momma and the cub.  Went for more dimension around the ears, cub head and neck and moving to the right side of the drawing to center the drawing more.  Next session we will move further to the right until it is centered properly.

Subtle changes to the neck, ears, mouth, and cub.  Made some corrections to the ears and fur using the eraser to show fur and give more brightness to certain areas of the drawing.

Darrel takes a few minutes to show you a great technique to check on your proportions. It is is so important to do this before you get too far into your drawing and corrections are still possible. You will use a series of lines and angles to do this.  You can print the attached image that has lines on it already, or you can make your own using an extra reference image.

PLEASE NOTE: Darrel always encourages you to ONLY use the 4H pencil to layout your projects.  Please DO SO for this lesson. You will see him using pencils that are not 4H, and he is doing this only so that the lines and points will show up on the camera for you.  You will not want to copy the pencils he uses as it will be difficult for you to remove the lines or points from your drawing.  USE ONLY 4H!
